The Re-Animator release isn't their worst offender, but I think their release is overly bright. Blacks are a little grayer and reds are a little pinkish. If the integrated (Integral?) cut is of any interest, then the German Mediabook release is a fairly significant upgrade over the UK release.

The Integral cut doesn't have the subs or 2.0 mix, but does have a DTS-HD 5.1 English track. Capelight has also added an isolated music score. Extras are a pretty solid lock for the Capelight blu, carrying over everything from past editions. Re-Animator covered itself in the special features department pretty early on. Basically, when censors edited down the "unrated" cut of the film to make an "r-rated" version, they put back in some cut scenes and alternate takes. The Integral version hybridizes these two, including all the gore alongside the extra scenes. This is where we get to the “Integral Version” of Re-Animator.

This beloved ‘80s cult horror hit follows a student who brings the dead back to life. Cast Unfortunately the integral cut doesn't have any subtitles which is why I'm not giving this release full 5 stars. The audio quality is excellent though so the subtitles might not be necessary and the integral cut is the worse version of the two, so you propably don't need to see it more than once (if even that). Re-Animator has never looked better and I doubt it even could. The unrated cut offers audio options that include an English LPCM 2.0 mono or stereo track, or a DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround sound track. Lovecraft's serialized short story, 'Re-Animator' is a bizarre, modernized twist on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, reaching almost to the level of farce on a few occasions with declarations of giving life to the dead. Only, this mad scientist with an obsessive god-complex gives life to a severed head with demented plans for a new lobotomy procedure and his Elizabeth is the roommate who shares in his insanity rather than try to stop him. It has two cuts of the film, the unrated and the integral cut which is the unrated cut with about 15min of added/extended scenes from the TV cut. Unfortunately the integral cut doesn't have any subtitles which is why I'm not giving this release full 5 stars. New to this release, and in the same fine shape as the unrated cut, is what has been labelled here the 'integral' version. A little explanation is probably required. When preparing the original unrated cut, director Stuart Gordon and producer Brian Yuzna chose to trim a number of scenes in order to up the pace and remove a hypnosis sub-plot that added a layer of weirdness that they believed the film no longer needed. I'm looking for a boutique release that includes the integral cut.

Integral Cut. The R and Unrated versions have similiar run times because it's just a bit of gore cut out. The integral cut however is 40 minutes longer not due to just gore, but also to character development and even an extra subplot of Dr. Hill being able to hypnotize people.
